What is HARO?

HARO, short for "Help a Reporter Out," is a powerful platform that connects journalists with expert sources. Founded in 2008 by Peter Shankman, HARO was created to bridge the gap between media professionals seeking expert insights and individuals or businesses looking to share their expertise and gain media exposure.

A Brief History of HARO

Peter Shankman initially started HARO as a Facebook group to help his journalist friends find sources for their stories. The concept quickly gained traction, and within a year, HARO had evolved into an email list with thousands of subscribers. In 2010, Vocus (now Cision) acquired HARO, further expanding its reach and capabilities. In December of 2024, Connectively / HARO will be shutting down.

Why respond to pitch requests?

Responding to pitch requests offers numerous benefits for both businesses and individuals:

  1. Media Exposure: Get featured in reputable publications, potentially reaching millions of readers.
  2. Establish Thought Leadership: Showcase your expertise to a broader audience.
